A top price of 2,700gns was achieved and 12 lots sold for 2,000gns or more when the Goostrey herd of Holsteins and Aryshires was dispersed on farm for Griffiths Farming, Malpas, Cheshire.
Picston Shottle sired four out of the five top sellers and leading the trade was an August calved heifer, Whinchat Shottle Treck, recently served to Pinetree Captivator. Descended from five generations of cows classified VG or EX it sold to G.A.G. Evans and Son for the Trawscoed herd, Welshpool, Powys.
Wardle Shottle Marie Queen, which recently completed a heifer lactation of 9,385kg in 265 days and dried off for a late April calving to Mer Gold Autumn Son Red, sold for 2,200gns to South Wales buyers Cilwrgi Farm, Pontypool, Torfaen.
The same buyers also paid 2,200gns for Wardle Lorenzo Dora, a two-year-old heifer by Lystel Lorenzo, which had calved in October and had been recently bred to Robthom Integrity.
A Shottle daughter also led the served heifer section with Checkley Shottle Suminka, due in July to Gillette Final Cut, selling for 1,650gns. The hammer fell to E. and M. Pearce, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.
Maiden heifers sold to 1,200gns for the 15-month-old Goostrey Hudson Unwin 2. This daughter of Weeton Hudson off a 10,310kg Regancrest Mr Samuelo cow bred at Hintonhurst sold to C.T. and S.E.C. James, Cardigan, Pembrokeshire.
Ayrshires sold to 1,750gns for the second calver Middle Margo MBB. The December calved daughter of Middle Brown Boy giving 41.1kg sold for 1,750gns to C.H. Prichard, Chepstow, Monmouthshire.
Averages: 158 cows and heifers in-milk and/or in-calf, £1,348.39; 12 barren cows, £503.13; 22 served heifers, £1,203.68; 15 maiden heifers, £833.70; 207 head overall, £1,246.71.
